 NYCDA

We are excited to announce that through all of the hard work and generous donations from our sponsors, families, dancers and friends - we raised over $18,500 for the NYCDA scholarship program in 2011. The original goal for the NYCDA Scholarship Program was $1 Million Dollars - combined - the total was $2.8 Million raised for college scholarships.

Four of our 2011 graduating seniors were recipients of scholarship funds from NYCDA. Cody Berkley was awarded a 4 year full-ride scholarship in the amount of $150,000. Jacquelyne Hutchins and Kimberly Fulmer each were awarded scholarships of almost $90,000 and Madeleine Sherrington was awarded $15,000 for tuition. We are so proud of our girls and we wish them huge success in their college endeavors.

The value provided by the NYCDA Scholarship program cannot be highlighted enough. So we plan to do all we can to raise even MORE money this year for this amazing program. For 2011 we are shooting for ALL of our seniors to come away with scholarships from this amazing program.

You will find a 'Donation Box' for change and small bills located in the lobby at the reception desk as every little bit helps.

*Also, we would like to remind you that donations are tax-deductible and for our studio to get credit for donations - we ask that you make the donations through our studio.

Congratulations Reilly! One of NSD's Senior Performing Company
Members has been named Miss Teen Texas!

Reilly Johannsen

Miss Texas' Outstanding Teen 2011

"Reilly Johannsen, a member of NSD’s Senior Performing Company and a Junior at Booker T. Washington School of the Visual and Performing Arts, was crowned Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen in a field of 42 contestants from all areas of the State of Texas.  Reilly competed in interview, fitness, talent, evening gown and onstage question. In addition, she was judged on her community service efforts, academic performance  and platform called “Reilly’s Rules: Healthy Mind, Healthy Body”.  Reilly performed a lyrical dance to “Note to God”, a song by Charice and graced the stage in a lavender chiffon evening gown that she designed.   We are very proud of Reilly!

A few words from some of our wonderful parents.......

"Michelle, I wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the studio and the amazing dancers you are moulding!!!  I have heard many positive things from parents around the studio from the first time we walked in last August, but it truly makes a difference when you watch the older dancers perform and it is at that moment that one truly knows we are in the right place and what we have to look forward to!   A........ had a wonderful time and has been 'performing' her dances for me since she got home from school today and talking all about the weekend.  We look forward to our next convention!

Michelle.....We have seen quite a few recitals since Katy started dancing, and we wanted to tell you that we thought the recital, both shows, were top notch. From the costumes, to the music and the dancing, the whole day was wonderful. What a great present for the graduating Seniors -- it was so special with the video intro before their solos.

Thank you so much for the year we have had. We can't imagine a better Senior year for Katy...she couldn't have landed in a better place. She did make new friendships this year and had the bonus of getting to work with you again. She was proud to compete under 'Next Step Dance', and she was excited to put it on her dance applications.

I know Katy will continue to be at the studio until school starts, and she is already planning on visiting again when she is back in town. That is a true testiment to how welcome she felt. We wish you continued success with the studio and the teams. They are all something to be proud of.

Thank you!
Karen & Cary

Michelle........Thank you so much for another amazing year with you.  I cannot believe how far Caroline has come when I look back at those "baby" pictures 6 years ago or even pictures from last summer.  I love that you both nurture and push Caroline to be her best. Thank you for continuing to make her a better dancer and better person.  You have taught her so many life lessons.

I cannot tell you how excited I am for you and the next year with all the new possibilities and people that are flocking to you.  It just shows that your talent shines throughout the metroplex.  You are going to have some real challenges in the coming weeks, but in a great way!  How wonderful to have talented/trained dancers coming your way.

New York was amazing.  Caroline loved it.  What a fantastic experience.  I am just SO glad Caroline stayed well! I bet you loved being back in the city!  Caroline and I  keep sharing stories with each other from last week.  I hope all of your  girls showed well to all of your mentors...I thought they looked amazing.

Lots of love - Susan

Absolutely love this school. The children's best interest is always first! My daughters have absolutely grown since they began in July. The staff is awesome and I always feel informed. The teachers are very focused and you can tell are ... very passionate about teaching the children the art, love & respect for dance. Above it all, my girls are happy and are proud of being part of this school ... we definitely made the right move :)

Barbara,

Just wanted to drop you all a note to share A's reaction to trying the 5-6 Hip Hop class last night.  As you may remember, A has had no dance experience and recently stopped gymnastics.  She was looking for something to try - so I suggested hip hop.

After leaving Tina's room, A came out very bubbly & all smiles.  She was wanting to show me everything she learned in the lobby.  Once in the car, I asked her if she enjoyed it.  A replied, "I didn't like it at all, Mommy; I LOVED IT & I want to go back everyday!"  Not only is she busy practicing the moves learned from Tina, but she is teaching all of us!!!

Thank you & the whole team up there for offering a variety of classes & free trials!  I am so appreciative to see my gal LOVING this new activity!

Michelle, Barb and Rita,

We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of your amazing summer intensive. We feel so fortunate being able to take class from such talented professional dancers. The girls loved every minute of class and at the end of the day could not stop going on and on about all the did and learned. Everyone at the studio was so kind to not only the girls but also to us. We felt so welcomed and everyone went above and beyond to make us comfortable. You should be very proud not only of your staff but also of your parents and students.

Thank you for sharing the feedback with us on the girls work ethic and attitude. As parents it is a positive affirmation for all the sacrifices we are making to give them these types of opportunities.

We absolutely look forward to coming back next summer and hopefully for the entire week! We know that the girls left better dancers after the instruction they received in the short 3 days and the opportunity for that kind of continued growth excites us! Please let us know the dates as soon as you have them set and if you have anything else that you think would benefit our girls by giving us the opportunity to grow please let us know!

Thanks again. Looking forward to seeing you in the future.

Marissa and Kennadi

Isabella has really enjoyed your class and thinks the world of you.  Thanks for your positive influence and continued inspiration to dance, while learning and having fun.  She practices around the house all the time!   You may or may not know that Isabella is actually quite shy.  She has developed so much in the last 2 years at Next Steps. It has helped her build confidence and feel a part of something.  She is very sensitive and has just recently developed more confidence.  Dance has helped her do that over the last 3 years. -- She is so motivated every Monday and Wednesday to get to NSD for her true skill development and learning.  Thank you for that.  Look forward to next year with you!

Never thought I'd say that dance is by far the toughest sport mentally, physically and emotionally out of all sports my kids have been involved in. Their love, time, commitment and passion paid off again and I'm so blessed that my child is surrounded by an amazing group of kids, teachers and families!!!! #NSDrocks!!

Being new to this studio this year with my children, I must say that time and time again I reflect on the reason we moved and how we came upon NSD- I did and still believe it is the best place for my children and I have seen such a joy in their hearts and a return of the passion that I had seen in them before for dance.  Reading your heartfelt sentiments towards all of these children continues to warm my soul.  Thank you for such a opportunity, an amazing staff, great and supportive parents, and teammates for my children.

We really enjoyed the weekend at Showbiz!  It was awesome to see all the dancers at Next Step do so well.  We are so glad to be part of the Next Step team!  As I am sure you know…changing studios is so hard.  We moved to Next Step from a studio where we spent 9 years (4 on competition).  We were part of their family for a long time.  In order to move to Next Step we had to leave people we considered family and very close friends.  Unfortunately…when you leave that studio….you are basically dead to them…and you know that when you leave.  A has come home from dance saying that we made the right choice and that she loves the kids, teachers, etc.  This has been a great experience for us all year….  But after this weekend…I know we made the right decision.  I was super excited to see A’s growth from last year to this year.  My parents noticed a huge difference in the type of competition and her level as well.  My parents sat through 18 years of dance between my sister and me….recitals/competitions/etc.  I hate to get all sentimental…but frankly when your kid loves something so much…you have to do what is best for them.  Thank you again for everything!  I can’t wait for the rest of the season.

Take care and thanks
-T
